Monday Sanctuary: Meditating New Ideas

I'll admit that the last week has been INSANE for me. My daughter had opening night on Friday at a local junior theater (they are doing 18 shows in 16 days) and last week was a whirlwind of dress rehearsals. Couple that with orthodontist appointments, homework, holiday shopping, working, writing, cooking, cleaning ... well some of those things just didn't happen! Mostly the writing and the editing didn't happen.

Luckily Jessie and I just sent off our manuscript to some beta readers for critique - and so I get some time off while I wait in limbo for those comments.

Time off from a project doesn't stop me from thinking or being creative. I've spent a lot of time this week meditating about new ideas, and thinking back on some of the old idemy review of The Mockingbirdsas I've conjured. For example, as I tried to fall asleep last night, I contemplated on Friday and how Daisy ended up writing about a situation that happened to her. I wondered if I could pull from any of my life-experiences. I've yet to tackle contemporary YA, but I think it would be interesting to write about a darker topic...

So, my point for today's Monday Sanctuary is that even in this hectic holiday season you can find time to be creative and meditate - whether its on your current WIP or a future project.

Wishing you lots of time for meditation!

  2. My "mediation" time comes while working out and while washing the glasses (because my dishwasher sucks at this). It can also happen while showering or blow drying my hair. I didn't even think about the holiday season during these activities. Always my wip. :)

  3. Thanks Renae and that's great Stina! I think household chores is definitely a way to "veg out" a bit :)

  5. Can someone teach me how to meditate ideas then? I feel lost with out co-author to brainstorm with...

  6. I have a folder where I jot down story ideas. That folder now has over 22 ideas (yep - I wonder if I'd ever finish them.) The co-author project I'm working on is not even my idea but I was approached to co-write. you can always start your own critique group for a sharing of idea forum.
